The door to each room is sealed shut with a sticker, not as some sort of movie-style trap to detect a burglar but to guarantee to those staying the night that no one else has dared enter since it was cleaned.

It’s just one of the steps the new Tru by Hilton Norfolk Airport Hotel is taking since it opened six months into a global health pandemic that still keeps many people closer to home and on the ground, eschewing air travel for road trips.

Princess Anne Road Hotel Development

VIRGINIA BEACH — The city is moving forward with a planned hotel development on city-owned land adjacent to Tidewater Community College’s Virginia Beach Campus.

 

Economic Development Director Taylor Adams briefed City Council Tuesday on the proposed two-phase development at the corner of Princess Anne Road and Community College Place.

New Hotel Concept in Norfolk near the outlet mall and Ikea

Harmony Companies, which owns land adjacent to the shopping mall – including an existing Quality Suites and Sleep Inn property – wants to build a 98-room Tru by Hilton hotel, according to an application submitted with Norfolk’s Architectural Review Board. It would be the first Tru hotel in the region.

If approved, the four-story hotel would sit alongside Lake Wright across from the outlet mall and next to the Harmony company’s existing hotels. It would also be near the region’s only Ikea, which is under construction and expected to open next spring. (To continue reading click here)

Wilmington finally has its convention center hotel

The Embassy Suites hotel, long viewed by city officials as the linchpin to make the Wilmington Convention Center a success, has officially opened.

 

The nine-story, 186-room hotel, connected to the convention center, hosted a New Year’s party to welcome its first guests, hotel spokeswoman Melissa Fallis said. During a tour of Wilmington’s newest hotel last week.

Convention Center Hotel on Track to open

The Wilmington Convention Center hotel is on track to open by October, an official with the hotel's development company said Wednesday.The $40 million, 186-room Embassy Suites is under construction by hotel owner and operator Harmony Hospitality. Its full name is Embassy Suites by Hilton Wilmington Riverfront, located at 9 Estell Lee Place.

A Virginia Beach commercial real estate firm…has bought the struggling Quality Suites and Sleep Inn beside the Norfolk outlet mall construction site. The new owners have no immediate plans to renovate the hotel. But its proximity to the forthcoming outlets – and an Ikea scheduled to open in 2018 – make the site an attractive one.

New name, new look for Airport Hilton

The Hilton Norfolk Airport has a new name: the DoubleTree by Hilton Norfolk Airport.

The brand change comes after $2.2 million in renovations were recently completed at the hotel, a 250-room site that sits at 1500 N. Military Hwy. Among other things, the rooms have been redesigned to brand standards, and the entrance and lobby were completely revamped.
