The Princess Anne area will get its first hotel, filling a critical need for the area, according to city officials.
The Virginia Beach City Council voted on Tuesday to sell nearly 4 acres of city land for $2.3 million to make way for a hotel and standalone restaurant near Tidewater Community College.
The area badly needs a hotel to keep up with its development boom over the past decade, said Taylor Adams, the interim economic development director.
He said people who attend events at the Athletic Complex, field house or amphitheater, as well as those who want to be near the Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, need a place to stay. Many of those visitors now go to hotels in Chesapeake, Adams added.
“We have all of this addition to the southern part of the city, but we really are underserved from a hotel standpoint, Adams said.
